In January of 1998 the Beaufort Police Department implemented a program to address the needs of citizens who have limited access to resources and outside contact. The program was designed to ensure daily contact was conducted with volunteers. If these volunteers are unable to reach the person after several attempts, a police officer is dispatched to the residence to check on things. This system has on occasion resulted in an elderly or ill individual in need of medical treatment being discovered early and avoided potentially tragic situations.
If you are or know someone that would possibly benefit from the program and meets the requirements please contact Carissa Garnes.
