A person wishing to make a formal complaint against an employee of the Beaufort Police Department must pick up a complaint package from the Department located at:
1901 Boundary Street, Suite 102 Beaufort, South Carolina 29902
The package must be filed out completely, signed and notarized and delivered to the Police Department. If the form is picked up at the Police Department, it must be completed and returned to the Department within fifteen days of being issued.
The department's internal affairs procedures are intended to be internally consistent, realistic, and provide due process protection for the complainant and the accused. The Professional Standards Lieutenant Richard Poole is responsible for conducting formal internal affairs investigations.
