Projects
Greenlawn Neighborhood Revitalization Project: Begun in June 2019, this project widened Greenlawn Drive, added sidewalks, on-street parking, stormwater improvements, an underground utility bank, lighting, new pavement, and landscaping. The project’s budget was $2.7 million; of that $500,000 came from a Community Development Block Grant and the balance came from Tax Increment Financing. Greenlawn Drive runs parallel to the Beaufort Town Center, off Boundary Street.
Other recent streetscape projects include Bladen and Duke Street in the Northwest Quadrant, and the core commercial are downtown including Bay Street.
A well-done streetscape project not only makes the area appealing to pedestrians, residents and visitors, it also improves safety (through better lighting), traffic flow (through better design and signals) and stormwater management (when better drainage systems are installed).
