BEAUFORT, S.C. (May 3, 2020) – National Hurricane Preparation Week begins today, May 3.

The Atlantic hurricane season in the United States begins on June 1 and ends Nov. 30. For residents of the Lowcountry, planning is essential so that no hurricane will catch residents unprepared.

Here are some tips from the National Weather Service and

Make a list of supplies for your hurricane kit. Restock what you need over the next several months. Don’t forget the needs of your pets. See details here, including Covid-19 changes.

Organize important documents and confirm coverage with your insurance agency. See details here.

Know your hurricane evacuation zone. Go to South Carolina Emergency Management Division to find your zone.

Don’t forget the basics: Make sure you and your family have a communications plan. See details here.
