SCE&G to Upgrade Transmission Lines

SCE&G Ad hoc Committee Meeting
Monday, December 18th, 2006
at the City Hall Conference Room

Background

The City has learned that South Carolina Electric and Gas is planning an upgrade of electric transmission lines in Beaufort.  Current transmission facilities are 46kv lines, bringing power in from generation plants north of Beaufort.  Upgraded lines are currently planned to follow the same general route, but will be upgraded to 115kv.  This will require the acquisition of easements, and installation of larger poles along the proposed route.

The City is currently assessing the impact this upgrade will have on existing neighborhoods. City Council has appointed a task force to review the proposed upgrade and make recommendations on solutions for mitigating or eliminating the impact on neighborhoods along the route.  The task force will present its first report to City Council on November 14th at the regularly scheduled City Council meeting (6 p.m.; County Council Chambers).

Please take a moment to review the route map above and the attached resources on electric service in the City.  If you have any questions or comments on this project, please submit them here.
