Complaints

A person wishing to make a formal complaint against an employee of the Beaufort Police Department must pick up a complaint package from the Department located at 1901 Boundary Street, Suite 102. The package must be filed out completely, signed, notarized and returned to the Police Department within fifteen (15) days.

The department's internal affairs procedures are intended to be internally consistent, realistic, and provide due process protection for the complainant and the accused. The Operations Captain is responsible for conducting formal internal affairs investigations and reports directly to the Chief of Police.

During the year 2008 there were a total of fifteen formal complaints made against officers. Of those fifteen, two were founded.
