When seeking an architect to design the structures for Waterfront Park, the design team traversed the country. We needed someone who could recognize the subtleties of Lowcountry architecture and embrace the historic integrity of the Landmark Historic District, while providing a sense of rebirth in Beaufort's centerpiece. After all our travels were complete, it turns out we needed look no farther than our own front door. The firm of R.W. Chambers Architects has staked its reputation on blending 21st Century functionality with timeless architectural features. Many of their award winning projects are located in historic downtown Beaufort. Lead architect Bill Chambers had the benefit of having an up-close look at the original park construction as he grew up in the Beaufort community. The Chambers firm has received numerous awards for projects in and around the City, including a recent infill project at the Beaufort Inn, and a renovation project to the Ballenger Real Estate building. Chambers is responsible for the design of all park structures, including the community pavilion and the restroom/maintenance facility. |
