Matthew Clancy is originally from Long Island New York. He graduated from The Citadel in 1986 and was commissioned as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps. While on active duty he served in various billets in the FMF and at MCRD Parris Island. In 1993 he left the Marine Corps to begin a career in Law Enforcement. That career began with The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office where he served in the capacity of Deputy Sheriff, Corporal and Sergeant. In 1997 he moved to the Beaufort Police Department where he has served as Patrolman, Criminal Investigator, Investigative Lieutenant and Deputy Chief. In 2008 he was promoted to his current position of Chief of Police. Chief Clancy is a graduate of the 220th Session of the FBI National Academy, the IACP Leading by Legacy Program and the South Carolina Diversity Leadership Initiative. He and his wife have 2 sons and have lived in Beaufort since 1989.
