Redevelopment Commission
The City of Beaufort established the Beaufort Redevelopment Commission to renovate, revitalize and regenerate distressed areas of Beaufort. The Redevelopment Commission's mission is to lead a coordinated strategy of redevelopment and design, strengthening the City of Beaufort as:
- The heart of economic development for Northern Beaufort County
- A prosperous place for business and institutions: and
- An attractive urban environment for residents and visitors.
The Beaufort Redevelopment Commission is charged with researching and recommending redevelopment projects within the City of Beaufort; coordinating, reviewing, recommending redevelopment plans for projects to City Council; facilitating negotiations necessary for the execution of redevelopment plans; and overseeing project implementation.
Meeting are held on the first thursday of the month at 4PM, usually at the Beafort City Hall Planning Conference Room - 1st Floor, 1911 Boundary Street. The public is invited.

Commission Members -
Jonathan Verity, Chairman
Mr. Verity came to Beaufort in the summer of 2005 after retiring from JPMorgan Chase as President and CEO of Bank One Trust Company in Chicago. At that time he joined his brother Will in the Investment Management Firm of Verity and Verity, now Verity Investment Partners.
While in Chicago, Mr. Verity was the Treasurer of the Joffrey Ballet. Prior to moving to Chicago in 1994, Mr. Verity spent 17 years in Dayton, Ohio. While in Dayton Mr. Verity was Vice Chairman and then Chairman of Citywide Development Corporation from 1988-1992. He also was Chairman of the Montgomery County Arts and Cultural District, Chairman of the Dayton Chamber of Commerce, President of the Miami Valley School and President of the Dayton Ballet.
He is chairman of the Public Relations/Marketing Committe and member of the Redevelopment Commission's Finance Committee.
Michael McNally, Vice-Chairman
Michael McNally's career centers on civil engineering, land development, planning, land surveying and construction. Projects he led included 3,000-acre and 5,000-acre residential, commercial and mixed use construction. In 2008, he sold his company, McNally Engineering, to his key employees so that the company could continue and he could retire to the Okatie area of South Carolina.
He is a lecensed professional engineer and currently serves as the construction inspector for the Callawassie Island Architectural Review Board; he is a previous board member of the Meadowlands Chamber of Commerce in New Jersey and the Borough of Oakland Flood Control Commission.
He serves as chairman of the Residential Redevelopment Committee of the Redevelpment Commission and also serves on the Finance Committee.
Edwin Barnhart
For 50 years, Mr. Barnhart has worked as an engineer and planner, including time as a professor at Southern Methodist University. He led and environmental engineering firm, and for 25 years has been involved in the Beaufort community.
A resident of Beaufort and Fripp Island, Mr. Barhart's professional knowledge and local exposure provide a good foundation for his work with the Redevelopment Commission.
Ed Barnhart is a member of the Residential Redevelopment Committee.
Henrietta Goode
A lifelong Beaufortonian, Henrietta Goode applied for the Redevelopment Commission because she "wants to be a part of maintaining Beaufort's character while helping with her growth."
Ms. Goode's leadership role with her Nortwest Quadrant neighborhood association helped spark clean-ups throughout the City that in 2010 removed 400 tons of debirs.
She is a member of the Redevelopment Commission's Residential Redevelopment Committee.
Patrick Kase
Patrick Kase's professional background spans 26 years as senior level executive leading new business development and project consulting in industries as diverse as advertising/marketing communications to planning, design and construction of commercial facilities.
A Beaufort resident, Mr. Kase works for Cogun Inc., a national leader in planning and construction services for churches.
He is a member of the Redevelopment Commission's Commercial Development Committee.
Keith Waldrop
A resident of Dataw Island, Keith Waldrop served as president and principal owner of CSG Advisor Incorporated, a national financial consulting firm serving states, counties, cities, housing authorities and redevelopment agencies. CSG Advisors assist its clients in raising money in the public or private capital markets to fund affordable housing, urban redevelopment and economic development initiatives. He retired in 2007 when he sold his owenership interest in SCG to several senior employees of the company.
Prior to his association with CSG Advisors, Mr.Waldrop served as the first Executive Director of Georgia's state housing finance agency and spent 11 years as an investment banker, including serving as national director of public finance for Dean Witter Reynolds.
He is a member of the Finance Committee and the Residential Redevelopment Committee.
Wendy Zara
As a financial advisor, Ms. Zara brings 30 years of experience in finance, including 10 years of work in the mortgage industry. A Beaufort County resident since 1992, she has lived in Beaufort for five years. Her interest include zoning and land use, affordable/workforce housing and local planning.
In addition to her expertise in Beaufort County land use and planning issues, Ms. Zara brings extensive financial management experience to the Commission. Prior to moving to Beaufort, she worked with Drexel Burnham Lambert and Morgan Stanley before owning and operating two businesses of her own.
She has served on the board of directors for various nonporfit agencies, including the Rape Crisis Center, Sea Island Rotary, League of Women Voters, Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce, South Carolina Envornmental Law Project, and Historic Beaufort Foundation. She has slo served on several County subcommittees.
In addition to leading the Redevelopment Commissions's Finance Committee, she serves on the Residential Redevelopment Committee.
Mike McFee, City Council Representative
Mike McFee brings 25 plus years of experience in real estate and is a Realtor with Hometown Reatly in Beaufort. He was first elected to Beaufort City Council in 2008. Prior to that, his community service included the Tourism Management Advisory Committee, the Beaufort Waterways Commission, was a chairman of the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce and a neigborhood coordinator for the Unites Way campaign.
He is a member of the Carteret Street Methodist Church where he aslo sings in the choir.
He is member of the Residential Redevelopment Committee.
