Streets Department

The City of Beaufort's Street Division provides a wide variety of services. The primary function of the Division is to maintain the sidewalks, right-of-way, easements, and other publicly-owned open spaces. Other duties include the collection and disposal of yard debris.

The City does require leaves to be bagged, limbs are to be bundled together (not to exceed four feet in length and not to exceed fifty pounds in weight), and placed out on the curbside for collection. Your yard debris collection day is the same as your household garbage day. For example, if your household garbage day is Monday, then your yard debris is collected on Monday. If your household garbage day is Friday, then your yard debris is collected on Friday. The areas that are serviced on Wednesday’s are: Islands of Beaufort, Battery Shores, and Battery Point.  If you have questions about this service, please contact us at (843) 525-7054. Large bulky, white or brown goods, large limbs or trees, and large amounts of discarded items are collected on a "call-in" basis for an additional fee. Vegetative encroachment, pedestrian hazards, etc. should be called in to (843) 525-7054.

As a part of its never ending desire to keep its citizens safe, the City has recently installed approximately 20,000 linear feet of sidewalk and is currently assessing the use of greenways and bike paths as a safer alternative. In addition, these greenways will serve as more aesthetically pleasing pedestrian/biker thoroughfares. This department is mainly responsible for the maintaining of the "quaint" appearance of our neighborhood streets and our busy thoroughfares.
