In the spring of 1994, he was assigned to MCRD Parris Island, Weapons Training Battalion. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, and worked as a Primary Marksmanship Instructor teaching new recruits the fundamentals of marksmanship for the next three and a half years. It was during this time that he became a Volunteer Firefighter with the City of Beaufort.
In December of 1997, he was Honorably Discharged from the Marine Corps. He began his career as a paid Firefighter for the City of Beaufort / Town of Port Royal in January of 1998. It was during the early years of his career at the Fire Department that he became involved with the self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) Program, maintaining and repairing the Firefighters breathing apparatus and cascade systems. In 2002, he was assigned as Manager of the SCBA program.
He has practiced for both Beaufort / Port Royal Fire Department and Beaufort County emergency medical services (EMS). He has attended management classes at the National Fire Academy and advanced Officer and Instructor training from the Alabama Fire College.
Promotions & Continued Education
In October of 2007, he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned as an Assistant Shift Supervisor of Shift 2. He enrolled in the Technical College of the Lowcountry and began working towards an Associate Degree in Fire Service Administration, which he completed in December 2012. In 2014, he obtained certification as an International Code Council Fire Inspector 1 as well as a South Carolina Certified Resident Fire Marshal.
In September of 2011, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and assigned as the Battalion Supervisor of Shift 2. He currently remains the Manager of the Department’s SCBA program and is the Supply Officer for the Department’s Station supplies.
Captain Scott Robinson is married with three children.
