Municipal Court
Mission
The City of Beaufort Municipal Court is responsible for the adjudication of all misdemeanor offense and violations against city and state laws that occur within city limits. These offenses are subject to a fine not to exceed $500, or imprisonment not to exceed 30 days, or both. Municipal Court is a summary court under the authority of the unified court system of the State of South Carolina.
Responsibilities
The City of Beaufort Municipal Court is responsible for addressing all misdemeanor offenses and violations of City and state laws. This includes offenses that occur inside the Beaufort city limits with penalties of a fine of $500 or less, or of not more than 30 days in jail, or both.
The judges and our staff work to ensure that everyone receives professional, efficient and impartial justice.
Court sessions
Court sessions are held every Monday and Thursday beginning promptly at 3 p.m. at the Beaufort Municipal Court Center Complex, located at 1901 Boundary Street.
- These trials are commonly referred to as Bench Trials and are heard before the judge alone.
- Trials by jury are normally scheduled on a quarterly basis. All court sessions are open to the public.
Cell phone policy
- No cell phones or weapons, including pocket knives and pepper spray, are allowed inside the Court Center Complex.
- Please secure your cell phone in your vehicle prior to entering the building.
