Career Path

Matt “Matthew” Bowsher was born in Lancaster, Ohio in December 1982. He attended Lancaster High School and graduated in 2001. While in high school Matt studied auto mechanics, while playing high school baseball.Once he graduated high school, Matt gained interest in becoming a Firefighter. Matt started the fire academy in 2002 at Columbus Community College.  Once completed, Matt started volunteering in an all-volunteer department for Bremen- Rushcreek Fire Dept.  Once he stepped foot in the fire house Matt knew this was what he wanted to do as a career.  Matt continued his education with the support of Bremen to obtain his National Emergency Medical Technician certification (EMT-B). In 2008, Matt followed his dream of always wanting to live in South Carolina and accepted a job with the City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department in February of 2008.Matt currently serves as Lieutenant for Shift 1.


During his career he has taken multiple South Carolina Fire Academy classes in addition to becoming an Instructor for various classes. In 2014 and 2015 Matt attended the National Fire Academy and studied Leadership Administration and Incident Command for Multi Alarms. Lieutenant Bowsher is currently seeking his Fire Science degree from Greenville Technical College. Lieutenant Bowsher is currently a member of the South Carolina chapter of the International Fire Arson Investigators.
