Our department integrates opportunities, geographic constraints, economic necessities, aesthetics, and the health and welfare of our citizens into the long-term development outlook for the City of Beaufort.
Our responsibilities
The Department of Community Development includes the Planning, Building Codes, and Code Enforcement divisions and is responsible for:
- Enhancing economic opportunities
- Long-range planning
- Collaboration with regional planning
- Ensuring that proposed changes to real property are in accordance with the City’s ordinances
Current Projects
A list of current projects updated monthly.
The Planning Division is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Beaufort Code, review and coordination of changes to the legal boundaries of real property, and for coordination of the design review process.
The Building Codes Division is responsible for ensuring compliance with the City’s building codes through the issuance of permits, review of technical development plans, and inspection of construction work.
The Code Enforcement Division is responsible for ensuring compliance with the City’s property maintenance code and for ensuring that properties do not create a hazard for the public.
