BEAUFORT, S.C. (Sept. 28, 2024) – The Beaufort County Emergency Operations Center will be setting up a power station at Beaufort Middle School, 2501 Mossy Oaks Road, at approximately 3 p.m. today (Saturday). This will be a portable electric trailer where people can charge their medical devices and phones. It will be open until dark tonight.
Calvary Baptist Church, 256 Savannah Highway, is opening its doors to the public for free meals, charging devices, etc.
An update from Dominion Energy aa of 12:10 p.m. Saturday:
- All hands are on deck in response to Helene.
- After working around the clock Thursday and Friday, by 8 a.m. Saturday, crews restored power to nearly 189,000 customers, which is nearly half of customers without power at the peak of outages. Crews continue to work safely and as quickly as possible to restore power to approximately 197,000 customers who are still without power.
- More than 2,500 Dominion Energy employees as well as crew members and contract resources, including from Virginia, are currently dedicated to storm response. More crews are on the way from North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Illinois and Texas.
- As with any storm that could possibly impact power to our customers, Dominion Energy does not release any crews to leave our service territory until a return to normal operations.
- Expect multiple days of outages.
- Because of extensive damage and widespread outages, some customers may be without power for several days. Currently, estimated times of restoration are not available.
- We urge customers to make plans now to take care of their family, and we thank you for your patience and understanding as crews work 24/7 to get everyone’s lights back on.
- We will not stop working until every South Carolina customer has their power restored.
Stay away from downed power lines. Always assume downed power lines are energized and dangerous. Keep in mind the downed lines may not always be visible, and use extra caution when walking outside after a storm. Please remain at least 30 feet away and ensure that others avoid the downed line. Because of an usually high volume of calls, customers who call 888-333-4465 to report a downed power line may get an automated voice message and experience a call disconnection. We encourage customers to use the app.
Download the Dominion Energy app. We encourage customers to use the Dominion Energy app, which is the fastest and most secure way to report or track an outage. Customers may also report outages by going to DominionEnergy.com or calling 800-251-7234. Keep in mind that customers may be experiencing internet/Wi-Fi service disruptions along with widespread power outages.
Check the outage map. Customers can use the Dominion Energy outage map for up-to-date information on restoration progress.
