Overview
The Capital Improvements Program (CIP) is an integral part of the City of Beaufort's strategic planning framework. It encompasses the identification and prioritization of capital improvement needs as outlined in the Comprehensive Planning process and other officially adopted City Plans. The CIP aligns these needs with projected revenues for both current and future fiscal years.
The planning process for the CIP involves community engagement and input from the various neighborhoods throughout the City of Beaufort regarding neighborhood priorities. These community needs are balanced with other infrastructure and long-term needs of the City and are presented to the Planning Commission and City Council for adoption as part of the Comprehensive Plan. These priorities are again reviewed by City Council during each year’s annual strategic planning and budgeting processes.
In compliance with the State's Priority Investment Act, the City develops a Ten-Year CIP to facilitate effective project prioritization over the next decade. This long-term planning tool is essential for ensuring that projects with the highest and most strategic use of municipal funds are addressed in a timely and efficient manner.
