[ARCHIVED] Special election to fill council seat will be on March 2

BEAUFORT, S.C. (Dec. 18, 2020) – A Special Election to fill the unexpired City Council term of Stephen Murray, who is the new mayor of Beaufort, will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2021. That term will go through November 2022.

The Beaufort County Voter Registration office will manage the Special Election for the City of Beaufort.  Any person wishing to register to vote in this election must do so no later than:

In-person:                        5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, 2021

Online, email or Fax:      11:59 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021

By mail:                            Postmarked Monday, Feb. 1, 202

* Only voters who are registered inside the City limits of the City of Beaufort may vote in this election

The filing for candidacy will open Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, at noon and will close Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, at noon. The filing fee is $150.

Filing packets, including the Statement of Candidacy and Statement of Economic Interest, will be available for candidates to either pick up from City Hall (City Clerk’s office, 2nd floor) or download from the City’s website (www.cityofbeaufort.org) beginning Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021.  

The new City Council member will take office on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.
